Print and test readable codes

Choose the right format, preserve contrast and test the final material.

Choose the right file

SVG uses vector shapes and is the best starting point for a print layout. PNG is useful when your software needs raster images; choose 1,024 pixels for more flexibility. Larger pixel dimensions alone do not certify a code. Actual module size depends on the number of modules and the final printed size.

Protect contrast and quiet zones

Keep dark modules or bars on a clean light background. Do not crop the white margin, stretch the symbol, add a logo over data or print on a heavily patterned surface. QR needs a four-module quiet zone. EAN and Code 128 also need clear side margins; keep the generator’s original space.

Test on the final material

Print one sample at the final size, on the actual paper, label or packaging. Scan under the lighting and distance users will face. Gloss, folds and low printer resolution may affect reliability. Try multiple scanners or phones, check the decoded content, then approve the full print run.
